How to calculate a weighted grade
Weighted course points = Σ(score × weight ÷ 100). Normalized average = weighted course points ÷ entered weight × 100.
For scores of 92%, 84%, 78%, and 90% with weights of 20%, 15%, 25%, and 10%: 92 × 20% + 84 × 15% + 78 × 25% + 90 × 10% = 59.5 course points. The weights total 70%, so the normalized average is 59.5 ÷ 70 × 100 = 85%.
When the entered weights total less than 100%, the normalized average describes only the graded work; the remaining course weight is still pending. Check your course rules for rounding, curves, dropped work, or extra credit.
