Direct answer

How to calculate the grade needed on the final

Required final score = (target grade − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight.

With an 82% current grade, an 85% target, and a final worth 30%: (85 − 82 × 0.70) ÷ 0.30 = 92%. If you expect 80% on the final, the predicted course grade is 82 × 0.70 + 80 × 0.30 = 81.4%.

Use the weight as a decimal: 30% = 0.30. This formula assumes the current grade summarizes all completed work and the final covers the remaining weight; check your course rules for minimum scores, rounding, curves, dropped work, or extra credit.

Current grade and final exam

Current grade is the normalized grade before the final. Final weight is its share of the full course.

GradeCalc performs percentage arithmetic only. It does not know your institution's letter-grade scale, rounding, curves, dropped work, or official result.
